High welfare cows

We pride ourselves on the high standards of welfare and care that we give our herd: more space when they’re inside over the winter months, and freedom to graze outside on our organic pastures during Spring, Summer and Autumn. The result is happy, healthy cows.

The Acorn Dairy herd has enjoyed UK harvested seaweed supplements since 2010. This has boosted cow zinc and immune systems naturally. Feeding seaweed is now known to reduce methane gas from cows by 82%.

Organic farming

We believe in farming that is in harmony with the local environment, with our cows grazing on healthy soils to capture more carbon and restore biodiversity loss. As a result we have 50% more wildlife, and 86 bird species spend time on our farm across the year including endangered species such as Tree Sparrows, Linnet, Oyster Catcher, and Little Owls.

Since 2010 we have been continuously reseeding 10 acres of wild bird habitats, and we to date we have laid 10km of new hedgerows.

Recyclable Glass Bottles

97% of our doorstep milk is delivered in glass bottles, which are returned for reuse. Bottles average 69 trips before being recycled, and using glass bottles means that we save on average 742kg /week of plastic. Customers unsuited to glass bottles receive milk in HDPE recyclable containers with 30% recycled content.

Green Energy

Since 2012 Acorn Dairy milk has been produced and processed using green electricity from solar and wind power.

Water Conservation

Waste water from the dairy farm is collected in a 10,000m3 waste water recycling lagoon built in 2018. This is used for irrigation and natural water course protection.
